What is OrchestraDB?
OrchestraDB is a comprehensive, multi-tenant orchestral sample library manager built for composers, arrangers, and sound designers who work with orchestral virtual instruments. Whether you use Spitfire Audio, EastWest, Cinesamples, Berlin Woodwinds, or any other orchestral sample library, OrchestraDB gives you a single place to catalog, search, and organize every instrument, articulation, and patch across your entire collection.
The catalog currently contains 3,865 instruments from 11 publishers. Every entry is verified and structured so you can filter by section — strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion, choir — by articulation type, by price including free libraries, and by publisher, all without leaving a single page.
OrchestraDB offers three membership tiers. The Free tier gives you full read access to the public catalog with search and filter tools. The Pro tier unlocks personal library management: save your own copies of instruments, add private notes and star ratings, import libraries from CSV, and export Cubase track templates. The Pro Plus tier adds automatic cloud backup of your personal library and the ability to submit data corrections to the public catalog through the community contribution workflow.
The platform includes purpose-built tools for composers: a MIDI Tape recorder that captures live MIDI input in the background, an Articulation Splitter that parses Cubase expression map files, a Chord Catcher for identifying chords from MIDI, and a CSV Translator for batch-importing library data. All tools are free and accessible without a login.
Data quality is central to OrchestraDB. AI-assisted extraction powered by GPT-4o parses manufacturer PDFs, spreadsheets, and web pages to produce structured instrument records. Pro Plus contributors can submit corrections through the versioned library contribution system, where admins cherry-pick individual field changes from multiple submissions before approving them to the public catalog. Every library carries a version history so you can track what changed and when.
OrchestraDB supports Cubase expression map export, shareable collection links, multi-profile personal libraries, and a community ratings system. The search engine supports AND and OR logic, exact phrase matching, acronym expansion, and deep-link URL parameters so filter states are fully shareable.
The personal library system lets you keep a private copy of every instrument you own. You can add star ratings, write notes, mark favourites, and tag instruments for quick recall during sessions. Collections can be exported as Cubase track templates in both Cubase 10 and Cubase 11 and 12 format. The backup and restore system ensures your personal library is never lost — Pro users get manual export and import, while Pro Plus users get automatic encrypted cloud backup that syncs across devices.
Community contribution is a core part of OrchestraDB. When publishers release updates, users can submit corrected instrument names, new articulations, updated pricing, and missing metadata through a structured review workflow. Admins review every submission field by field, cherry-picking the best data from multiple contributors. Approved corrections are versioned and attributed, and contributors earn recognition on the public contributors page. This keeps the catalog accurate and current without requiring a full-time editorial team.
